Since this is the last weekend of summer (I’m having an inner tantrum as I write that), I decided to do something summery and fun on my nails today. I started with two coats of SquareHue Happy, which is a medium pink creme from their May 2013 collection. Then I added two coats of Neener Neener Nails Dot.Dot.Dot, which is a circle gltter topcoat with blue, magenta, pink, and gold glitter. I used base and topcoat as well for the photos.
How do you think this turned out? I quite like it! Dot.Dot.Dot is my first foray into the ‘circle glitter’ trend, and I think it looks good!
I purchased Neener Neener Nails Dot.Dot.Dot from her Etsy shop. It looks like it is on sale for $5.75 right now. I purchased SquareHue Happy from the SquareHue nail polish subscription service. The subscription is $19.99 per month in the U.S., including shipping.
Here’s hoping you enjoy this last weekend of the summer!
Today I took nailspiration from the fabulously talented Jordie of the blog J0rdz Stylish Fingertips. She recently posted a tutorial on how to do a gel nail look with light pink fading to clear. I tried out this look myself today, and here are the results! I used Sation Off the Record Pink and Kleancolor Sugar Coat to create this look, and I tried out the Nails Inc. Kensington Caviar Gel Effect Topcoat to top it off.
How do you think it turned out? It’s not so bad for a first try, but it’s a long way from the greatness of J0rdz’s version! I’ll have to keep practicing. There’s a little bit of staining on my ring finger nail that I didn’t realize was there, and it would definitely look better without it. 😉
I used four light coats of Off the Record Pink, and then dabbed a coat of Sugar Coat over the lighter area in the center. The Sation polish was very easy to apply. I had more trouble with Sugar Coat, as it took forever to dry. I might try adding some thinner to it the next time I use it to see if that makes a difference. The Kensington Caviar topcoat was really great. I have read mixed reviews of it in the beauty blogosphere, but it dried incredibly quickly and does add that shiny, kind of squishy look of gel polish to the manicure.
I purchased all of the polishes used in this manicure. The Sation polish retails for $5 on the Sation website. The Kleancolor polish is $3.49 on the Kleancolor website. Kensington Caviar topcoat is $10 at Sephora.
The weather’s a bit fickle today here so I thought some glittery, sparkly nails would be the best way to brighten my day! For that I chose a nail polish from the Yogurt Series available at Born Pretty store. This one is # 13 in the color selections. It is a very light salmon pink base with gobs of pink and gold glitter. I used three coats in the pictures you see below; I almost stopped at two because of how much glitter this one has in it, but I’m glad I did a third coat because it evened everything out. I have used base and top coat here as well.
What do you think of this polish? Do you like polishes that are chock full of glitter like this one? I just love an over-the-top, glittery nail.
I purchased this nail polish from this Born Pretty store listing. There are a few other shades available in addition to this one. If you are thinking about purchasing from them, do a quick web search for a coupon code. There are a lot of 10% off your purchase coupons floating around out there for this store.
Thanks for looking!
Today is such a beautiful, sunny day! And for me, sunny days almost always mean holo nails. 🙂
Today I’m wearing Blue Steel from the Kelara Lacquers Double Rainbow collection. Blue Steel is a pretty ocean blue color that has a scattered holographic glow in the sun. The holo in this one is not really visible in the shade, but the shade of blue is so pretty that I don’t mind. I used three coats of Blue Steel with no base or top coat for the pictures.
What do you think? Do you like this type of scattered holographic polish? And please don’t mind my right index finger nubbin. I am always breaking that one nail! I don’t know why, exactly, as I’m not even right-handed. You’d think my left hand would be in more danger. 🙂
I purchased Blue Steel from the Kelara Lacquers online shop for $12.
My NOTD for today is some simple half-moon nail art using the Hits Speciallità Guerra dos Sexos set in Linha de Frente. The set consists of a medium gray that dries to a matte finish on one side and an iridescent topcoat on the other that has a slightly pinkish hue with lots of blue shimmer. I used it the ‘intended’ way, with the blue shimmer as an accent to the gray, but I also tried layering the gray on top of the iridescent shade for an accent. I also added a rose nail charm since the coloring of it seemed to go so perfectly with this pair!
There were no application issues with this polish. I purchased this set from Llarowe some time ago, but it doesn’t look like it’s available there anymore. This could probably be got by special request from one of the brand’s retailers if you’re interested.
My NOTD for today is Incoco’s nail polish strips in Mirage. Mirage features purple and black zigzag stripes, although the purple looks more pink to me (I often have a hard time telling the two apart). I’ve used the Incoco design manicure nail polish strips a few times before and have been impressed both with their ease of application and with their staying power. They last longer on me than most traditional nail polishes do. They are a good option for more complicated nail art designs that I just don’t have the patience or skill to do by hand.
Incoco nail polish strips can be ordered online through the Incoco website. The Mirage nail polish strips are $8.99 for a set of 16 appliqués.
